Using of these types of computer animation depending on how the artist prefers to create it. Understanding the different styles of computer animation can help an artist to choose their career prominently.

ZOEtrope :

The zoetrope produces the illusion of movement when the viewer looks through the slits in its sides while it shows a sequence of images that are all slightly different. Zoetrope was invented in 1834 by William Horner. Zoetropes were followed by other animation devices, including  flip books.

Cel animation :

Cel animation also known as hand-drawn animation. It’s  involves the use of many transparent sheets which can all be laid on top of one another. The images on each sheet will be Changed to give the illusion of movement this is repeated until a full length animation is produced. “ Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”  was the first feature length film to be produced using cel animation. In recent scenario cel-based anime still broadcast only in Japan.

Stop frame/stop motion :

Stop Motion Animation is a process to bring a static character to give life on screen. Clay figures, miniatures are used in stop motion animation as they can be handled and repositioned easily. Using    stop motion animation first place shows up is in 1898, in a movie called “The Humpty Dumpty  Circus”.

Claymation :

This is a combination of stop motion animation and using clay models that are moved slightly before each image is taken to create the illusion of movement when the images are shown in sequence. Clay animation became popular in the 1950s a special thanks to two children’s television series created by Art Clokey- The Gumby Show, featuring clay characters Gumby and Pokey, and Davey and Goliath featuring legendary characters.

CGI :

CGI stands for computer generated imagery  also  it’s a form of visual effects. Animation A very sophisticated method of animation which uses tweening, morphing and keyframes to produce the effect of movement. It can be used in various flims, science fiction, dramas and works amazingly in characters,environment. Using CGI technology in 1973 ‘WEST WORLD’ become the first CGI movie in cinema.

Flipbooks :

These are created using paper or card with an image being drawn on each page with a slight change in the postition so that when the pages are flicked the image appears to move.

Process of making a Flipbook :

  • Get a thick stack of paper
  • Start at the bottom right
  • Draw the next image
  • Continue the process.
  • Polish and enhance
